These tools assist in marketing your store by processing discounts to users at the checkout. The difference between the two is Discounts provides a blanket discount at checkout, whereas Coupons will require the user to enter a specific code at the checkout.
To set these up go to the
More section on your store.
Starting with Coupons, you may want to use this for specific and targeted marketing to some of your customers, for example by giving out a code to customers by email.
Where indicated on the form, input the code name you want to give to your customers. Where the form ask for a Min, input a minimum order value, and where it asks for a Limit this is the maximum number of times this code can be used, then hit the Add button.
As an example you may want to offer a code for 10% off the next 100 orders more than £10 who use the code "VIP". After hitting Add you will see the following page:
You will see the Coupon Code, Minimum Purchase and Limit all pre-filled with the details, now if you would like the discount as a percentage or a fixed amount of the order, just add the dates you want this code to be valid to and from and then hit Add.
As you can see from the image, this code we created would mean if a user adds the code VIP to an order over £10 they will receive 10% off the order at checkout.
Discounts do the same thing but do not require your customer to input a code, so are more general. An example maybe on social media, you announce the first 10 orders of the day will get 10% off the price.
Similar to Coupons, add a name (this is for your reference only), select a minimum order and limit to the discounts and press add button. You will then get a page like that above to input the discount type (percentage or amount), the value of the discount and the dates this should run to and from.
